Susan Nell (Jake) Emarthle

Susan Nell (Jake) Emarthle
June 4, 1951 ~ April 12, 2023

Susan Nell Emarthle passed from this life on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Susan was born on June 4, 1951 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to John Jake, Jr and Georgia Jake. She grew up with two brothers George and Darryl, and five sisters Mary, Josephine, Ida, Judy, and Holly. Susan grew up in the Hominy area, until her mother passed when she was fourteen. Then she went to Sequoyah Indian High School in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where she graduated early. Susan continued her education at Northeastern Oklahoma University where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She played tennis in college.

Susan started running into this young man at different events and before long he stole her heart. Daniel Emarthle and Susan Jake were married on December 17, 1982, in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Their family grew when Jessica and Martin came along. Susan loved taking care of her kids. The family moved to Wichita, Kansas for Daniel’s work.

Susan and Daniel enjoyed playing tennis together, but it took him along time to be able to beat her. She was a wonderful player. They loved taking trips together. Colorado was a favorite place to go, either Central City (pre casino days) or Estes Park. They also spent time in San Antonio, Texas for his work for a few months.

Susan dedicated her life to her family. Taking care of Daniel, Jessica and Martin was just the beginning for her; she was committed to her many nieces and nephews. Susan did not miss a school function for her kids. They traveled to Hominy all the time for family events. Every holiday was a special time for everyone to get together. The Halloween costumes she made for all the family were very special. She loved to sew. Susan was a good cook and everyone loved her chocolate cookies and custard pies. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

Susan was survived by her husband Daniel Emarthle, both her children Martin and Jessica, one sister Mary Jake, and multiple nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents John Jake, Jr and Georgia Jake, two brothers George Jake and Darryl Kipp, four sisters Josephine Jake, Ida Bevenue, Judy Jake, and Holly Jake. The family has entrusted Powell Funeral Service with the arrangements.
