Oliver Windell “Ollie” Ellis

Oliver “Ollie” Windell Ellis, 77, of Locust Grove, OK, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 7, 2024. He was born on June 17, 1947, in McConnell, West Virginia, to Roel and Mabel (Buzzard) Ellis.

Ollie grew up in Logan County, West Virginia, attending Earlene Grade School and Mann High School. A proud patriot, he served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, dedicating four years to service. Later, he joined the National Guard, where he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant during his seven years of service, retiring in 1982.

On August 15, 1970, Ollie married the love of his life, Judy Ann Hatfield, in Otsego, Michigan. Together, they shared over 50 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with three children: Heather, Laurel, and John. Judy preceded him in death on October 15, 2020, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.

In 1979, Ollie relocated his family from Michigan to Chouteau, Oklahoma, and eventually settled in Locust Grove in 2001. He built a career defined by hard work and resilience, qualities he carried from a very young age. He worked for Hilti as head of maintenance for 19 years and later for GEA Rainey, specializing in industrial maintenance and machining, until his retirement in 2010.

Ollie was a member of the American Legion Post #182 in Pryor and previously the Chouteau VFW. He was passionate about the outdoors, an avid deer hunter, and a skilled artifact enthusiast, with a particular love for hunting arrowheads. Ollie was also a gun enthusiast. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for his patience, kindness, and a touch of stubbornness, Ollie will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

He is survived by: His 3 children: Heather Ellis of Pryor, Oklahoma, Laurel Ellis of Montrose, Pennsylvania, and John Ellis and wife Brandi of Chouteau, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren: Tiffany Couch and husband Cody of Chouteau, Oklahoma, Amanda Gardner of Watford City, North Dakota, Melissa Davis of Pryor, Oklahoma, Andrew Stephens of Los Angeles, California, Natalie Stephens of Pryor, Oklahoma, Elizabeth, Jamie, and Jeff Pardo of Montrose, Pennsylvania, John Ellis and wife Audrey of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Angel Ellis of Chouteau, Oklahoma; 8 great-grandchildren: Mercedes, Aedon, Oliver, Maxon, Mariana, Mason, Jackson, Cecelia, Alexander, Zachary, Robert, Brynn, and Beckham; 4 sisters: Anna Walls of West Virginia, Marsha Travers of Florida, Kathy Lively and husband Dee of West Virginia, and Vicki McNeil and husband Mike of West Virginia. Ollie is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends who will forever hold him dear in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Judy; 4 brothers: Robert, Larry, Richard, and Ted Ellis; 1 sister, Romaine Sherwood; and one great-grandson.

Per Ollie’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home.
