Juanita Blanks Ellis, former longtime Chickasha resident, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003, at a retirement home in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mrs. Ellis attended Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, where she received her undergraduate degree in music. She later attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City and received a Master's Degree in Music (organ) from Syracuse University.
Mrs. Ellis began her teaching career at the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma, in the late 1940s. Mrs. Ellis was married to J. B. Ellis for over 45 years prior to his death in 1995.
Mrs. Ellis taught English and music at McClain High and East Central High in Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1966 through the late 1970s. Mrs. Ellis loved antiques, literature, the theater and art.
Her sons Richard of Brooklyn, New York and Mark of St. Louis, Missouri survive Mrs. Ellis.
Private services for the family were held at Stanley's Funeral Home in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 15, 2003.
