Billy Ellis

May 7, 1931 ~ January 19, 2004

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation was held Monday evening at Hillcrest Mortuary.

Billy Ellis, 72, passed away January 19, 2004, in Bakersfield, California.

Bill was born in Checotah, Oklahoma, on May 7, 1931, to James Walter and Carrie Edna Ellis. The family moved to Kern County, around 1936, during the Dust Bowl Okie" times. The family settled in Arvin, CA. In 1949, at the age of 18, Billy served proudly in the U. S. Army during the Korean War Conflict, where he obtained the rank of Corporal. He was a member of Wasco, VFW Post #6742, and of Korean War Veteran's Association, in Bakersfield. Billy also served proudly in the old Wasco Police Dept. as a reserve officer for 18 years. Billy retired from Pac Bel in 1991 as an Equipment Manager after 38 1/2 years of service.

After retirement, Billy loved to go to church when health would permit. He was baptized in 2003.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Rake McDonald Ellis in December 1997; mother, Carrie, in 1978; sisters, Hazel Cole Sykes, Rachael Perry, Jewel Middleton; brothers, Kenneth, Paul Hoyet Thomas. Survivors include sister, Julie Edna Wye of S. C.; a very special sister, Helen Thomas of OR; daughter, Shirley Goss and son-in-law, Jesse Goss, granddaughter, Rebecca (Becky) Goss, all of Wasco; goddaughter, Julie Merrified of Bakersfield and nieces and nephews, a host of very close friends, but especially his 4-legged best friend, Taz. He loved to go fishing before he got too ill to do so.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the KWVA, P. O. Box 1342, Bakersfield, CA 93302-1342
