Gladys (Armstrong) Elling

September 12, 1921 ~ May 23, 1984

Jefferson – The funeral for Mrs. Charles (Gladys) Elling, 63, a former resident of Jefferson who died early Wednesday in a Tacoma, Washington, nursing home after a lengthy illness, will be at 11 AM Saturday in the Tuell Funeral Home Chapel at Tacoma. Burial will be in a Tacoma cemetery.

Mrs. Elling was born September 12, 1921, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to William and Laura Armstrong and moved with the family to the Jefferson area when still a child. She and Charles Elling were married at Grand Tower, Illinois, on February 9, 1943, while he was in the United States Air Force. After his discharge, the couple moved to a farm near Jefferson. They moved to Washington in 1960.

Mrs. Elling sang with the Sweet Adelines for many years and helped in making their costumes. She was a member of the Christian Church.

The couple's only child, Roger Bill Elling, was born in Enid in 1946 and drowned in Vietnam in 1968.

Among her survivors is her husband, Charles.

Memorials in her name may be made to one's favorite charity.
