Erlene Fae Ehler
February 24, 1936 - July 16, 2017

Erlene Fae Ehler of Granbury, Texas passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017 in Indianapolis, IN in comfort with loving family. She was 81 years old.

A memorial ceremony for Erlene will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.

Erlene was born February 24, 1936 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma and raised south of Ponca City, farming in the early years with her mother, Verna Arnold and sister, Jean Arnold. After graduating from high school, she worked for Conoco and eventually met and married Wade Ehler in the First Presbyterian Church of Ponca City on November 18, 1956 a marriage of over 55 years. She and Wade had three children, Dean Ehler and wife, Claudia of Santa Barbara, CA, Elaine Pugh and husband Mark of Indianapolis, IN and Duane Ehler of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter, Jessica and Brian Leatherwood and their children (great-grandsons) James, Thomas and Matthew of San Diego, CA, granddaughter, Kathleen and Dave Patrick and their son (great-grandson) Oscar of Yosemite, CA, granddaughters, Olivia and Savanah of Santa Barbara, CA, and grandchildren Britney, Kiel and Zachary Pugh of Indianapolis IN, as well as caring and loving family that completed her celebration of life.

Erlene, her mom, Verna, sister, Jean and grandmother Ashbrenner worked hard in those early years, on the farm, however always had a zest for life, filled with aunts and uncles, smiles and laughter.

Erlene's life with Wade was filled with new turns, with a growing family and several moves from Connecticut, to California, Kansas and eventually Granbury, TX in 1994 where she and Wade retired, square danced, played cards with friends, family and traveled a bit, before she eventually moved to Indianapolis, IN.

Erlene was an amazing person, woman, full of life, nurturing, caring, patient, who loved to dance, whether it be square dancing, or playing a 45 on the portable record player with her sister Jean in the living room. Her friendships were steadfast, her family a devotion and always with a smile she greeted the day and all those that got to know her felt the warmth and love. It breaks our hearts to lose her, however she will eternally be remembered through daily thoughts, stories, pictures and our eternal miss of that amazing smile.
