Roger Dale Edwards, 64-year-old Legate community resident, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022, while surrounded by his loving family at his home. Funeral services for Roger were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel, Marietta with Reverend Don Keizor officiating.
Roger began this life on July 16, 1958, in Altus, the son of Wayne Dale and Lucy Dell Jones Edwards. He grew up and attended school in Maysville. He married the true love of his life, Margarett Jo Wofford, on October 8, 1976, in Vernon, Texas. They had recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.
After graduating high school, Roger found his true calling as a heavy equipment operator. He worked for Chatham Dozer Service in Healdton for almost 40 years. He truly loved his work and took great pride in the work he did from the seat of those massive machines. Roger also loved racing cars, riding dirt bikes and four wheelers, jet skiing and being out on the boat. Roger loved being outdoors camping and fishing. His trips to Colorado camping were some of his most memorable times. Roger was also known as somewhat of a barbecue guru and was greatly admired for cooking a hearty breakfast for the family every Saturday morning. Most recently, Roger had become addicted to his new hobby . . . "Snapping" his nieces on Snapchat.
Roger was preceded in death by a brother, Sonny Edward Edwards; niece, Erin Taylor; brothers-in-law, William T. Wofford and Cecil D. Kohl; and a sister-in-law, Betty Pyburn.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Margarett of the home; his parents, Wayne and Lucy Edwards of Marietta; two sons, Dale Wayne Edwards and wife Shelly of Marietta and Billy Joe Edwards of the home; brother, Tony Ray Edwards and wife Theresa of Noble; sister, Nita Lou Brosh and husband Lyndol of Marietta; brothers-in-law, Andy Kohl and wife Lucy of San Antonio and Bobby Boxley of Marietta; sisters-in-law, Etta Brace and husband Ernest of Marietta, Cindy Kohl of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Lydia Solenberg and husband Allen of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Trey Edward and Cassie; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Jo.
