Marjorie Dawn Edwards

Marjorie Dawn Edwards
April 26, 1954 ~ March 7, 2020

On the evening of March 7, 2020, Marjorie Dawn Edwards, holding her husband's hand while surrounded by her children and loved ones, passed from this world at the age of 65. As Irving Berlin wrote, “The song is ended, but the melody lingers on...” Her story is carried on by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The lessons she taught as the Edwards Family Matriarch will linger on.

Marjorie was born on April 26, 1954 in Oklahoma City to Ann McArthur and Charles Richard Coleman. Graduating from Grant High School in 1972, Marjorie would go on to marry Robert Shawn Edwards on August 30, 1980 at Bethel Baptist Church. Marjorie and Robert built a life and a family together raising their five children. Times weren't always the easiest, but Marjorie held the Edwards Bunch together, teaching them to lean on each other in times of need.

Marjorie was a woman who loved crafts like embroidery, cross-stitching, painting ceramics, and gardening. Her love for gardening kept her busy on nice days, and her passion for reading kept her busy on the rainy days. Some of her favorite topics to read included fantasy and science fiction, but her joy was reading about history. When she wasn't working hard at her job, she was imparting her love for crafts and for learning to her children. She always encouraged others to find the truth for themselves—to go beyond what others tell us our capabilities may be—but always with a level head. As an example, she was progressive and entrepreneurial minded; she developed various small business start-ups, including Go Mobile Local Webs, with the knowledge that the future would be geared toward handheld devices. Another time, she started Black Magic Beans and began roasting her own coffee, which she shared with friends and family.

Marjorie is survived by her husband of 39 years, Robert Shawn Edwards; children, April Edwards Marler, Meagen and husband Clarence Nichols, Jeromy Edwards, Robbie Edwards, and Zechariah Edwards; grandchildren, Christnia Sky, Josiah Marler, Kylie Marler, James Marler, and Caden Edwards; great-grandchildren, Emily Perdue, Ophelia Perdue, and Phoenix Miguel; siblings, Melinda Harrel, Virginia Eppstein, Jenny Pratt, Elliot Coleman, Amber Nunez, and Tessie McClenahan; and nieces, Emily Pratt and Eva Nunez. Marjorie’s beloved pets were her cat, Darkness, and dogs, Rowdy, Tater, and Sparky.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Neoma and Charles Coleman, who raised her; Maternal grandmother, Marjorie Coleman; son-in-law, Josiah Lynn Marler; and beloved pet, Zoey.

The family would like to give a special thanks to in2vate for their memorial donation to the Myriad Botanical Gardens Foundation in Marjorie’s honor. The family would also like to thank Dr. Woodward, Nurse Lanna, the staff at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Craig with Good Shepard Hospice, and Dr. Beamon.

“The bond that links your true family, is not one of blood but respect and joy in each other’s life...” – Marjorie Edwards

”After much thought and consideration among our family, we have decided to indefinitely postpone our Mom's service at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation and let you know as soon as possible about future plans to celebrate her life.”
