Helen Simone Edwards, 80, passed away to her heavenly rest on April 12, 2026 in Lawton, Oklahoma. She was born on December 11, 1945, and lived a life of love and kindness.
Helen was born In Scherpenheuvel, Belgium to James Nichols and Marie Jeanne (Hendrickx). Her father served in WW2 and they lived in many places before he was stationed at Fort Sill. They finally made a home in Lawton in 1959. Helen attended Lawton High School where vocal music was her favorite class. After she graduated in 1964, she worked at the cleaners at Fort Sill, OK. She moved to California for a time but eventually moved back to Lawton to be near family. She worked at Mr. Phil’s Shoe Store in the 70s as a salesclerk. She married her husband Neil in 1974 and enjoyed being a homemaker thereafter. Her passion was sewing and making crafts to give to family and neighbors. Helen leaves behind a legacy of love and generosity. She was a gentle soul and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Neil, her son, Robert Souza, her brother Edward Nichols and her parents. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (and Stephen) Richardson of Lawton, her nieces, Christa Bishop of Lawton and Shannon (and Justin) Durette of North Augusta, SC; her nephew, Matthew (and Jessica) Richardson of Lawton, her great-nieces, Madison Bishop and Aubrey Richardson; her great-nephews, Connor Bishop and Blake Bishop along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
