Debra Renee Edwards slipped off to deep space on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at her residence in Marietta. While her decision was difficult, it was the only way to defeat her mortal enemy, cancer. Debra now resides in a galaxy far away and plans to continue being the same bad$$$ she has always been. She will be missed terribly but if you look to the West, on a clear night, you’ll see her waving her lightsaber in victory!
Debra was born on September 30, 1975 in Ontario, California to James and Kimberly Dunnagan Edwards. She moved to Love County in 1993 and graduated from Marietta High School with the Class of 1995. She worked for Dollar Tree Warehouse. Debra married the love of her life, Crissy Edwards on June 19, 2015 in Love County. She was an amazing wife, daughter, sister, friend but completely outdid herself when it came to being an aunt. She took her beloved nieces and nephews on amazing adventures and took great pride in spending quality time with them. Debra was also devoted to her community and served as a Lieutenant on the Marietta Volunteer Fire Department, winning Firefighter of the Year in 2012. She was also a fierce advocate for animals and loved spending time with her fur-babies.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jimmie and Beverly Dunnagan, and her paternal grandparents, M.B. and Inez Edwards.
She is survived by her wife and soulmate, Crissy Rene Edwards of the home; mother and stepfather, Kim and Lester Douglass of Marietta; mama bear, Rosemary Magner of Krum, Texas; two brothers, Jeremy Edwards of Idaho and Donald Miller of Alabama; two sisters, Brandy Valenzuela and husband Raul of Marietta and Lauraine Drown and husband Andy of Buhl, Idaho; and thirteen nieces and nephews, Raul Valenzuela, Jr., Antonio Valenzuela, Rocky Valenzuela, Mady Davis, Victor DeHoyos, Ian DeHoyos, Lillie Lopez, Liam Lopez, Jasmine Drown, Evalyn Drown, Morgan Edwards, Charlie Edwards and Zoii Edwards.
Serving as pallbearers will be Matt Gribble, Todd Wickware, Brylun Anderson, Sara Brannan, Terry Vernon, and Toi Bone. Honorary bearers are her beloved nephews and nieces.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Love County EMS for bringing Debra home and to Cash with Victory Home Health and Hospice.
Debra’s celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 21 at the First Baptist Church of Marietta with Fire Chief Dusty Michael officiating. The family requests that everyone in attendance wear their favorite superhero shirt in Debra’s honor.
