Dan E. Ediger

Dan E. Ediger
Sept. 19, 1922 ~ March 30, 2014

ENID, Okla. - Dan E. Ediger was born Sept. 19, 1922, to George and Helena Heinrichs Ediger and passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014, in Enid, Okla., at the age of 91.

He grew up on a farm southeast of Kremlin, Okla., along with three brothers and one sister.

Dan attended North Enid Mennonite Brethren Bible School. Dan began his walk with Christ on Dec. 16, 1936, and, the following spring, was baptized and became a member of North Enid Mennonite Brethren Church and later became a member of Enid Mennonite Brethren Church, where he was a deacon and sang in the Men's Chorus.

Dan married Alma F. Kroeker on Oct. 31, 1945.

Dan did conscientious objector service by fighting forest fires in California, and later working in a mental hospital in Pennsylvania. He was a longtime member of the Oklahoma Bible Academy Board of Directors, and was instrumental in working with the OBA cattle project that provided operating funds to sustain the school. Although he didn't go to high school, education, and particularly Christian education, was important to him.

In 1960, Dan and his wife Alma moved from Kremlin to Enid so they could be close to the bus route so their children could attend OBA. And he also saw to it that his children could attend college.

He served on the OBA Board for many years, and because of his many years of service, he was granted graduation status as an honorary alumnus.

Dan was a life-long farmer, and especially enjoyed running stocker cattle on wheat pasture. He was uniquely gifted in spotting sick cattle before they were sick.

In 1976, when he developed a heart condition, he continued to do what he could in farm management. Dan also enjoyed collecting farm toys.

Dan is survived by his children, Karen and Jack Sawatzky of Cordell, Rhonda and Richard Isaacs of Turpin, and Roger and Cathy Ediger of Carrier; grandchildren, Jeff Sawatzky and wife Amber, Lisa Batt and husband Donovan, Kari Korner and husband Adam, Russell Isaacs and wife Alice, Lori Mahon and husband Heath, Ryan Ediger and wife Stephanie, and Laura Stirton and husband Marc; great-grandchildren, Justin, Molly and Mindy Sawatzky, Dawson, Samantha and Drew Batt, Landon Schmidt Stirton and Luke Stirton. He also is survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Melvin and Helen Warkentin, and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma, his parents, and his brothers and sister.

Burial will be at 4 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014. The Celebration of Life service will follow at 7 p.m. at Enid Mennonite Brethren Church, with the Rev. Jay Risner officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Enid Mennonite Brethren Church or Oklahoma Bible Academy, with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds.

Condolences may be made online at www.ladusauevans.com.
