Paul Hoyt Dykes passed away Sunday, March 8th at the age of 82. Paul was born October 31st, 1937 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. After graduating from Chickasha High School in 1955, Paul went to work at Tinker Air Force Base in the Computer Department before taking a position at Kerr McGee as a Computer Programmer. Paul married Reta Ann Godfrey on February 28, 1958. He was hired at the Federal Aviation Administration when it opened in 1958 and worked as a Programmer, Systems Analyst, and Supervisor. After 35 years at FAA, Paul went into business for himself marketing an Oil and Gas Accounting Software program that he wrote. He was also a Division VP for TVR Communications responsible for computer contracts.
He retired in 2001 to be his wife Reta’s caregiver until he became ill with Alzheimer’s. Paul was a history buff who loved to read National Geographic and watch the History Channel. Paul enjoyed spending time with his sons, Todd and Lane. He coached both sons’ Little League baseball, basketball and football teams. Paul loved to play golf and participated in numerous tournaments including the annual Washita Valley Golf Tournament in Chickasha. He enjoyed running through the neighborhood and around Lake Overholser. At the age of 80, Paul ran the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon Relay with four of his High School classmates.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Dykes of Chickasha, OK; son, Lane Dykes; and niece, Karen Dykes Edwards.
Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Reta Dykes; son, Todd Dykes and wife Tammy of Frisco, TX; grandchildren, Brayden and Karley Dykes of Frisco, TX, Rob, Zack and Joe Dykes of Olathe, KS; brother, Kendall Dykes and wife Iris of Broken Arrow, OK; brother-in-law, Wayne Godfrey of Gardena, CA; nieces, Kendy Dykes McWherter and husband Phil of Mount Dora, FL, and Wilma Beagle and husband Nevin of Edmond, OK; nephew, Ken Dykes and wife Jayne of Bixby, OK; and cousin, Phil Applegate and wife Perri of Tulsa, OK.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, June 23, 2:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel, Bethany, OK.
