Claudius William Dwiggins Jr., age 84 of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away on April 29, 2018 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was born on May 11, 1933 in Amity to Claudius William and Lillian Scott Dwiggins of Amity

He graduated from Amity High School and the University of Arkansas completing a Doctorate in Chemistry. At the time he graduated, he was the youngest person to have completed a PhD in Chemistry from University of Arkansas. His career included working for the U.S. Bureau of Mines and the U. S. Department of Energy at the Phillips Research Center in Bartlesville, OK. During his career, he was published many times in chemistry journals. His work is cited and used to this day in chemistry publications around the world. He was a lifelong member of the American Chemical Society. He retired from the U. S. Department of Energy.

Affectionately known as Sonny by his family, he was an avid reader, gourmet cook, and lover of classical music and animals.

He was predeceased by his parents, Claudius William and Lillian Scott Dwiigins; and one brother, Alvin Scott Dwiggins.

He is survived by his brother, David Dwiggins and wife, Tresa; sister-in law, Rebecca Dwiggins ; nephews, Barry Dwiggins, Gene Dwiggins, and Chris Dwiggins. two great nieces, Hannah Dwiggins and Haylea Dwiggins; and one great-great niece, Brylie.

Graveside service will be 3:00 PM Wednesday May 2, 2018 at Jones Cemetery, Amity

Memorials may be made to Jones Cemetery in care of Dora Lee Bean, 316 North Hill Rd., Amity, AR. 71921.
