Ethel (Carinder) Dunn

April 14, 1937 ~ June 18, 2018

Longtime Pawhuska resident Ethel Dunn passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 in the OSU Medical Center, Tulsa, OK. She was 81 years old.

Ethel was born April 14, 1937 in Copan, OK the daughter of William A. and Margaret Josephine (Simpson) Carinder. A graduate of Caney High School with the Class of 1955, Ethel soon met Freddie F. Dunn, and they were married on November 27, 1957. He preceded her in death December 13, 2016.

Ethel was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Pawhuska, where she served as the Church Secretary for 25 years and worked in the nursery for 50 years. She was also a member of the Red Eagle Homemakers Extension Club. Throughout the years, Ethel babysat many children in her home. She was also well-known around the area for the delicious cakes she baked and decorated. Probably one of the highlights of her life was when Ethel was able to meet in person John Wayne, for whom she was a huge fan. In her spare time, she loved working jigsaw puzzles. Above all, Ethel enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandkids, whom she absolutely adored. She always had a smile on her face. Her laughter will be especially missed because she was always laughing.

Surviving her are he children Steven Dunn and wife, Debbie, of Blackwell, OK; Tracy Dunn and wife, Kelly, of Ponca City, OK; Nikki Thompson and husband, Clint, of Foraker, OK; Freddie Francis Dunn, II, and Richard Dunn; brother Bill Carinder of Niotaze, KS; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, sister Naomi Harriman and grandson Ricky Joe Dunn.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 21, 2:00PM, at the First Baptist Church of Pawhuska. Rev. Shawn Caldwell will officiate. Interment will be in the Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, KS.
