Donny Ray Dunn, age 69, of Paoli, passed away Monday, January 28, 2019. Donny was born January 10, 1950 in Sweetwater, TN, a twin, and the 3 rd of 9 children born to Guy William Dunn Sr. and Mary Ruth (Schrimcher) Dunn.
When Donny was a young boy, the Dunn family moved to Rockford, IL where he attended school. At age 18, Donny joined the Marine Corp and headed off to Vietnam to serve his country. While in the service, Donny's life was changed forever after he stepped on a landmine, taking his eyesight and both of his legs. Although his life was altered, he chose to stay positive and live. After the service, Donny returned to the states, settling back in Rockford. He married Marlene McCauley and to this union, two children, daughter, Brenda and son, Jeremy were born. He returned to school and earned his Associates Degree, but Donny wished for his children to be raised in a small town, so he purchased a ranch and relocated to Paoli in 1981. For several years, he worked for Henter-Joyce Inc. developing software programs to help the blind. He enjoyed tinkering on stuff. He built houses and could do a little of everything from electrical to plumbing. There wasn't anything he couldn't do!
He would often tell his children and grandchildren, "It's not what happens in life, but how you react to it." Donny's real passion was his ranch, and he spent many a day working cattle. He loved to travel and looked forward to deep sea fishing trips. He was an early riser and took on all he could, each and every day. He was a great inspiration and will be dearly missed!
