Vona Delphine Duncan, age 89 of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the OU Medical Center in Okla. City. Vona was born January 31, 1928 in Granite, OK, 1 of 8 children born to Robert Emmitt Smith Sr. and Zelma Mae (Bridge) Smith. She was raised in Granite and attended Granite schools.
The Smith's moved to the Asher/Konawa area. It was here that she met the love of her life; a young man named Waldon Dee Duncan. They fell in love and were married on October 14, 1946 in Konawa. For many years, they made their home in Okla. City where together they raised 7 children. Vona worked in Health Care, as both a CNA and a CMA at area nursing homes over the years. She was a caring person who enjoyed people and she gave so much of herself to help others as a Nurse. She would tell you that her greatest accomplishment was her family, and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They brought her much joy and happiness and she looked forward to spending time with them. Vona was a gifted quilter and a wizard at jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was a woman of great faith and a longtime member of the Church of Christ. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Dee Duncan; Son, Darrell Duncan; Infant Daughter, Roxie Ann Duncan; Granddaughter, Carrie Duncan; Great grandchildren, Bryson Duncan and Hanna Neely-Wheeler; Her parents, Robert Emmitt Sr. and Zelma Smith; Brother, Robert Emmitt Smith Jr. and 4 sisters, Goldie Smith, Helen Robinson, Violet McKiddy and Alice Smith.
Vona leaves behind: Her daughter, Tammy Neely of Okla. City, 4 sons, Danny Duncan of Australia, Gordon Duncan of Jones, OK, Derrick Duncan of Okla. City and Dana Duncan of Helena, OK; Brother, Vance Smith of Tulsa; Sister, Mary Haynes of Blanchard; 18 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; Several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be 12:00 P.M. Monday, May 15, 2017, at the Plainview Cemetery in Plainview, AR.
