Doris Gail Baker Duer, daughter of Roy Edgar Baker and Alma Margie Zumwalt Baker, was born on August 29, 1944 at Elk City, Oklahoma.
She was raised in the home of her parents near Berlin, Oklahoma on Sandstone Creek.
At approximately 8 years of age, Doris was baptized and remained in the loving care of her Savior throughout her lifetime.
She completed 12 years of school at Berlin and graduated with the Senior Class of 1962.
Doris was united in marriage to Bob Atha and two daughters, Jeannie and Jan were born to that union.
Later, being single and having two daughters to raise, she enrolled at Sayre Junior College where she earned her associate degree as a laboratory and x-ray technician. She was subsequently employed at hospitals in Memphis, Texas and in Waynoka, Alva and Seiling, Oklahoma as a lab x-ray technician.
On November 30, 1984 Doris was united in marriage to Charles Duer at Vici, Oklahoma.
Their home was established at the present location on their farm west of Vici.
At that time, and according to Doris' insistence, her occupation was "upgraded" to that of a farm homemaker {or a farmer's wife}. She loved life on the farm and was devoted to her husband. She and Charles became members of the Vici United Methodist Church, which they have supported faithfully.
Doris also became a member of a rural homemaker's club known as the Turner Club and honed her homemaking skills while making lifelong friends of her neighbors that were also club members.
She especially enjoyed their quilting and sewing times together. Her other most favorite pastime was reading.
Doris entered her heavenly home on June 24, 2004 after having fought a long and difficult battle with cancer. Her courage and endurance through this most difficult time will be admired and remembered by all that knew her.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Alma Baker.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Charles, of the home in Vici; her daughters and husbands, Jeanie Gail, and Kevin Brown of Tina, Missouri; and Debra Jan and Jack Gregg of Webster, Texas; her five grandchildren Heather Lynn, Derek and Michael Brown, and J.C. and Jacob Gregg; one sister, Lila Black of Oklahoma City; a niece, Cheryl Black of Germany; a nephew, Gary Black of Tuttle, Oklahoma; one aunt May Mindes of Tempe, Arizona; and other dear relatives and many friends.
