Shirley Mae Downing, age 74 passed away with dignity and respect at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark. on Saturday, February 15, 2020. She was born July 2, 1945 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Clem and Virginia Downing.
She is a graduate of Westville High School and attended Haskell Indian Nations College in Lawrence, Kan. where she studied cafeteria management. She retired from Simmons Foods in Siloam Springs, Ark. after 20 years of service.
Shirley was a loving mother and an outstanding grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, fishing, taking trips when she could and watching football and basketball and cheering on her favorite football player, her great grandson Landon.
She is preceded in death by her parents Clem and Virginia Downing. two brothers, Leon Watson and Alex ”Butch” Downing and one sister Jeanne Downing.
She is survived by her daughter Kim Miller and husband Jesse of Westville, son, Scott Downing and wife Pauline of Tahlequah, three granddaughters, one grandson and four great-grandchildren, and one aunt, Martha Jane Stillabougher of Dallas. She also left behind her lifelong best friend Mary Jane Alexander, many cousins, and other extended family whom she loved dearly.
Memorial services were held Friday, February 21, 2020 at Roberts & Hart Chapel, Westville.
