Jerry Gene Dowell

Jerry Gene Dowell
April 20, 1953 ~ August 29, 2018

Jerry Gene Dowell was born April 20, 1953 in Canyon City, CO to Floyd Gene and Minnie Rozell Dowell. Jerry's career path was as broad as his personality. His first job was picking pickles. He also worked harvesting wheat, at a paper mill, at a printing company, in the oil patch, he managed a Sonic, was a Washington County Deputy Sheriff, owned a bar named Jerry's Club, was a bounty hunter and finally a bail bondsman. Jerry owned and operated Jerry Dowell Surety Bail Bonds for over 30 years, where he continued to work until his death.

Jerry competed in Karate tournaments, was an accomplished boxer, owned fighting roosters, rode motorcycles, played golf, was a licensed private investigator, and was certified as an agent for Natural Disaster Animal Rescue. He always had a soft spot for stray animals and stray people, helping both whenever he could. Jerry liked talking politics and sports, always rooting for Republicans, Sooners and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He owned race horses and loved casinos and blackjack. If you could bet on it, Jerry liked it.

Jerry's foremost love was family, and he took pride in being someone his family could count on. Jerry became a grandfather in 2010 and it permanently changed him. Always known to be extremely stubborn and hard as nails, he suddenly became "Pa" who talked in baby talk and never wanted to leave his grandson's side. They were best friends.

Jerry was tragically diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in November of 2017. He found a renewed faith in God, and was baptized in January of 2018 at the North MacArthur Church of Christ. He fought a hard fight against a terrible disease, taking as much chemotherapy as the doctors would allow until passing away August 29th at home surrounded by family.

He is survived by his loving partner of 37 years Vicki Ringeisen, his son Justin Dowell, daughter and son in law Nichole & Aaron Glover, his siblings Mike & Linda Banks, Patti Barnes, Rod & Donna Ringeisen and his grandsons Wyatt and Lucas Glover, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and Brother Steve as well as two nieces.

He passed away instructing his family not to be sad, because his was a life well lived with no regrets. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 10:00am at the North MacArthur Church of Christ in Oklahoma City.
