A gathering for family and friends of Melinda Douglas, 59, was held on Tuesday, November 1 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Craddock Funeral Home, Ardmore. A private Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, November 2 with Roy Vinson and Lawrence Anderson officiating.
Born September 14, 1963, at Lawton, the daughter of Teddy and JoAnn Green Pierce, she died Saturday, October 29, 2022, in Ardmore after a six-year battle with cancer.
Melinda married Willie Ed Douglas in Gainesville, Texas on December 5, 1986, and enjoyed 35 years of marriage. She worked for many years at Marietta Public Schools as a substitute and special education teaching assistant.
Melinda enjoyed planting new flowers in the spring, attending OU football games in the fall, and baking chocolate chip cookies and brownies for her boys.
Melinda was preceded in death by her father, Teddy Pierce. Survivors include her mother, JoAnn Pierce of Duncan; husband, Willie Ed Douglas of Marietta; sons, Willie Lee Douglas of Dallas and Tanner Pierce Douglas of Los Angeles; brother, Joe Pierce and wife JoAnn of Duncan; sister, Brenda Trotter of Cache; sisters-in-law, Marvia Nett Douglass of Marietta and Sheila McCray and husband Ricardo of Garland, Texas; brother-in-law, Melvin Douglas of Marietta; nieces and nephews, Nikki and Jeff Wolfe of Dallas, Kelsey and Lauren Pierce and their son Teddy of Tulsa, John Henry Trotter of Lawton, Jody Lee Trotter of Cache, Lahne Douglas of Tulsa, Trinity, Shekinah, and Britain McCray of Garland; and close friends, Raulita Wade of Moore and Barbara Craddock of Ardmore.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the University of Oklahoma Alumni and Friends of Love County in her memory. One of Melinda's greatest joys in life was sending her sons to OU. She would be happy to know other Marietta and Love County students would be given the same opportunity.
