Nora was born in Shawnee, Okla., and departed this life on November 26, 2024, in Broken Arrow, Okla., at age 91. She was a daughter of Toby Ellis Sing Sr. and Martha O. (Carpenter) Sing. She married Donal Lee Doss on September 30, 1950. They were together for 59 years until his passing in 2013.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Karey Doss of Broken Arrow, Richard and Bobbie Doss of Shawnee, and Kenneth and Denise Doss of Arizona; three granddaughters, Kendra Garrison, Alena (Freddie) Chambers, and Julie Doss; two grandsons, Jeremy Doss (Heather) and Jason Doss (Angie); 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Sing; and many nieces, nephews, and other family, friends, and neighbors.
She was predeceased by her husband, Don; her parents; one sister, Betty; six brothers: Raymond, James, Toby Jr., Paul, Jack, and Jim.
Nora began first grade at Washington School in Shawnee and graduated from Macomb High School in 1950, where she played basketball. She was on the 1950 state championship girls' basketball team in Macomb's division. She attended business school in Shawnee and worked at the Sylvania plant. She commuted to work at Tinker for 25+ years while raising her boys and won many awards of excellence for her outstanding work there.
Nora was a sweet, practical, and generous person with a great sense of humor. She was a giver, but never a pushover. If you asked her what she thought about something, she would tell you. She was the mainstay of her family of origin and her own family over her lifetime. Her main hobby was going to estate sales and thrift stores, where she looked for Cabbage Patch dolls, vintage glassware, and whatever other bargain collectibles that caught her eye. She also enjoyed sewing and embroidery. She was a big OU football fan. She loved dogs and had several lucky ones throughout the years. Her kind and gentle presence will be greatly missed by those that loved her.
Services were held at an earlier date. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Baptist Village of Broken Arrow: 2801 N Birch Ave, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
