Funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Laura J. Dodson, 73, of Enid will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct.14, 2015, in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Gary Miller officiating. Cremation will follow.
She was born on Aug. 25, 1942, to J.D. Blackburn and Cora Agnes Poplin, in Enid, Okla., and passed away on Oct. 7, 2015, in Enid.
She was raised and educated in Enid. She married Donald Eugene "Buck" Dodson on Jan. 25, 1957, in Enid. The couple spent over three years at Travis Air Force base in California during Buck's service to his country, returning back to Enid in 1960. She was a homemaker and mother, a bookkeeper by trade and spent over 22 years doing what she loved, working alongside her husband at Buck�s Body shop. Laura was a longtime member of the Enid Speedway Booster Club and an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her brothers, Larry Squires, and William Collins; children Joel Dodson and wife Gail, of Enid, Okla., Tammy Callaway and husband, David, of Enid, Okla., Donna Miller of Pegram, Tenn., and David Dodson and wife Angela of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, and Bill Nash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, husband of 47 years, Donald "Buck" Dodson; daughter, Lola Walters; sister, Patty Hopper; brothers Danny Jennings and Jerry Blackburn.
Memorials may be made in her name to The Enid YMCA Back-A-Youth program, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Shriners Hospital, with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
