Russell Lee Dodd

May 16, 1947 ~ January 20, 2013

Dodd, Russell Lee passed away peacefully in Midwest City on the evening January 20th. Russell was the son of Russell and Mary Belle Dodd and was born May 16, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He lived most of his life in Norman.

Russell attended Pleasant Hill and Norman public schools. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 and was deployed to South Vietnam the following year. He served as an infantryman with the 2nd Squadron of the 1st Cavalry Regiment and experienced a significant amount of combat, mostly in the central region of South Vietnam. He was wounded in action and was subsequently awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received.

Russell returned to Norman after his military service and was employed at various local firms; working in auto mechanics, construction, and landscaping. Russell was a kind and quiet person who required very little to keep himself happy and comfortable. He was also a very caring person who watched after, and assisted, his parents and brothers during their various illnesses.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, James and Bobby. He is survived by his remaining brother Danny Dodd and Danny's wife, Georgine. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Russell was a beloved person and will be greatly missed by those of us remaining.

Arrangements for Russell and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Online condolences may be shared at www.havenbrookfuneralhome.com
