John H. Diveley

John H. Diveley
July 17, 1934 ~ September 11, 2017

John H. Diveley, 83, Zanesville, Ohio, formerly of Garber, died 9:04 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio, following a brief illness. 

He was born Tuesday, July 17, 1934, in Enid, the son of John F. Diveley and Allene (Haughey) Diveley.

He married Sue (Stine) Diveley on Wednesday, June 27, 2001, who he affectionately called his "Baby Girl". 

John was a former member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Garber. 

John faithfully and proudly served his county and was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War. He continued his service to his country with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. 

John served with "20 years and 20 days" of dedicated service to his country, retiring as a Master Sergeant. John was a Life Member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars.

He previously enjoyed beekeeping, wine-making, especially his plum wine, and working on his farm in Cumberland, Ohio. 

He was the Tupperware Distributor for the 16 surrounding counties in Southeastern Ohio area. 

He greatly enjoyed his daily regimen with Sue to feed and watch the deer in the wooded area behind Genesis Hospital, especially his favorite, "Sweet Pea." 

John was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who greatly enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

John is survived by his wife of the home: Sue Stine Diveley; two children: John H (Roxanne) Diveley Jr. and Karen (Bruce) Lee, both of Zanesville, Ohio; two step-children: Brandon (Amanda) King of Westerville, Ohio, and Zachary (Jeannette Gieb) Hall of Morgantown, W.Va.; one grandson: Jeremy (Tiffany) Baxter of West Monroe, La.; two great-grandchildren: Maxwell Riley Baxter and John Myles Baxter; a host of step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren and extended family; one brother: Frank E. (Charlotte) Dively of Loganville, Ga.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by first wife and mother of his children: Mary Katherine "Kathy" (Sutterfield) Diveley who died in 1964.

Friends may call 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio.

The funeral service to Celebrate John's Life follows at 5 p.m. with Pastor Larry Kudart officiating. 

The United States Air Force, VFW Post 1058, and American Legion Post 29 will conduct full military honors.
