Arthur Ray "Shorty" DeWees, 80, son of Virgil Lee and Bessie Armintha Cross DeWees, was born March 1, 1916 near Blue in Bryan county. He died on March 29, 1996 at the Seiling Municipal Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 1, 1996 in the Seiling Assembly of God Church with pastors Michael Brien, Robert Yandell and Bobby Stewart officiating.
Services were under the direction of Ridinger Funeral Home in Seiling.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, April 3, 1996 at the Fairview Cemetery in Albuquerque, New Mexico with the Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Home in charge.
When he was approximately ten years of age, he moved to Roger Mills county with his family. Prior to this move, he attended school at Blue. Later he attended the Kiowa School and the 9 Mile School, west of Hammon.
He was married to Lula Blaylock, December 25, 1936, near Hammon.
They moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they raised their three children, Colleen, Jerry Lee and Arthur Ray, Jr.
For many years, Shorty was employed as a concrete truck driver for the Albuquerque Sand and Gravel Company until he retired in 1977. After his retirement, he moved his family to Los Lunas, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lula, October 18, 1984.
On June 2, 1985, he married Eva Bromlow Bell, at Seiling. They have made their home in Seiling where they have been active in the Seiling Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife Eva of Seiling; one daughter, Colleen DeWees of Los Lunas, New Mexico; two sons, Jerry DeWees of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Arthur R. DeWees Jr. and wife Nancy of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one step-son: Donald Beel and wife Janet of Auburn, Washington; three sisters, Edna Ray of Chino, California; Pauline Elder of Aztec, New Mexico; Allene Stewart of Hammon; two brothers, Leonard DeWees and wife Mary of Corona, California; Lloyd DeWees and wife Lorene of Aztec, New Mexico; two grandchildren; one great granddaughter; four step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Lula; one sister, Jewel Dean Jenkins; and two brothers, Gola and Travis DeWees.
