Celebration of Life service for Stephen DeVaughn will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2015, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Brian Meyer will officiate. Visitation with family will be 10 a.m. until service time.
Stephen was born Dec. 25, 1948, in Henryetta, Okla., to W.A. "Dell" and Berta Lee Stephens DeVaughn and passed away June 22, 2015, in Enid.
Stephen graduated from Henryetta High School, where he played football, in 1967. As an Eagle Scout, Scouting was important to him. Stephen graduated from Phillips University in 1972.
After graduation, he went to work for the U.S. Treasury Department Customs Division as an agent. Stephen served with the Secret Service on the Personnel Protection Service of President Gerald Ford.
Later, he served as the special agent in charge of the New Orleans and New York City divisions and Criminal Divisions of Custom Enforcement.
Upon retiring as director of Criminal Investigations in Washington, D.C., and traversing all over the world with international law enforcement, Stephen moved to Enid, Okla., in June 2000.
In Enid, he continued his passion of serving by participating in Meals on Wheels for 12 years; Enid Police Commission, serving as chairman; and Enid Fire Commission, as chairman. He thoroughly enjoyed his special friends of his morning and afternoon coffee groups.
Stephen knew he was greatly loved by his family, his brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Richard and Judy DeVaughn of Enid; his nephew, Dustin DeVaughn and wife Susan of Wichita, Kan.; his niece, Wendi Dollarhide and husband, Rob, of San Antonio, Texas; his nephew, Pepper DeVaughn and wife, Jennifer, of Edmond, Okla.
Stephen, lovingly called "Gus" for great Uncle Stephen, anticipated stories about his great nephews and nieces: Harrison, Dylan, and Haley DeVaughn, of Wichita; Grace and Keagan Dollarhide, of San Antonio; and Scarlett DeVaughn, of Edmond. He was an important part of every family vacation, anniversary, birthday party, and family weekends.
Stephen was generous to many organizations in Enid and, so, in lieu of flowers, consider donating to Youth and Family Services of Enid or Enid Boy Scouts, with the funeral home serving as custodian of funds.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to those who cared for Stephen at The Commons. They continuously gave him wonderful attention and care. Guestbook available at www.andersonburris.com.
