David Earle Dent, 55, passed away Friday, February 28, 2020. He was born October 2, 1964 in Sacramento, California, to Roy Van Dent and Carolyn Marie Clark Dent.
David was a military “brat”, and thus his early years involved frequent family moves. By the time he was five years old, he had lived in Sacramento, California, Merced, California, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula ( City of Gwinn, Michigan), Lubbock, Texas, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Redlands, California, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, and Dallas, Texas.
David’s dad, Roy, was a USAF pilot assigned to Vietnam in 1970. Upon his return in late 1970, the family lived in Fairfield, California until July 1978. However, there were still a few moves left. In 1978, his father was reassigned to Scott AFB, Illinois where the family lived in O’Fallon, Illinois. It was here that David excelled in football, graduated in 1982, and received a USAF Academy appointment where he played football. David was somewhat of a “free spirit”, and he determined that he did not enjoy the military lifestyle. By this time, the family had moved to Altus, Oklahoma. David dropped out of the Academy in 1985, enrolled in OU and graduated with a Marketing degree in 1988.
David was a great guy who never met a stranger. He had a passion for movies and entertainment trivia and could quote innumerable lines from movies. He could mimic foreign accents with ease and loved doing it. He dubbed himself “Super Dave” in memory of a movie involving a character with that name. To those of us he leaves behind, he will always be “Super Dave”, super likable, super friend, super family member, and super memories of him.
David was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his father, sister Debra and husband Brian Magers of Norman, Oklahoma, and niece Bailey Marie Harris, a senior at OU. The family has elected cremation of David’s remains, with their final resting place yet to be determined. The family will hold a private memorial service for David at a date and location yet to be determined.
Memorials may be made in memory of David at an individual’s charity of choice.
