Richard was born in Enid, Oklahoma May 2, 1945, the middle child of three to the late T. Dale and Genelle Davis. He passed away peacefully at his home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma August 26, 2016. He lived a full and meaningful life until his death. He will be remembered for his kindness, generous spirit, keen sense of humor and his quick wit.
Richard spent much of his life in Oklahoma and Texas. He graduated from high school in Duncan, Oklahoma and went on to join the Air Force. Following his discharge from the military service he attended the University of Cameron at Lawton, Oklahoma and completed his education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas where he studied commercial art. It was in Lubbock where he met Terri Gaddis who would later become his wife.
Richard was employed by Video Independent Theatres in Lubbock until he was transferred back to Oklahoma and managed theatres there. After he left the theatre business he went to work for ABB where he was employed until his retirement in 2006. While he was able to travel and enjoy the ride, he bought a motorcycle and took as many weekend trips as he could with his traveling buddies to other states, coloring in the states he covered on his leather jacket map.
In retirement Richard pursued his many interests and hobbies. He joined an active group of Mountain Man Rendevousers. In that group he met on weekends with like men and women who were interested in preserving the culture of mountain man days. They always dressed in mountain man gear for their weekend gatherings. He developed many close friendships there and continued to be active over many years. He was given the nickname of "Pit" by his friends because he was a pitiful shot with his black powder rifle.
Richard had a very creative mind, always aware of his surroundings, observing the beauty and design of architecture and art. He enjoyed working with his hands and loved doing things for other people. He made beautiful jewelry for friends and loved ones. When he wasn't working on jewelry, he was assembling model airplanes and cars. Among his other activities he enjoyed playing golf with Terri and spending his downtime with Ally and Jenny, his two buddies at home.
Richard's brother Robert P. Davis and both his parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Terri and one sister, Karen Wood and her husband Mike plus many nieces and nephews. The Wood family lives in a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Chris Gaddis and sister-in-law Becky Power and her husband Jim.
A memorial service will be planned later to commemorate his life.
