Peggy Joyce McDaniel Davis

December 1, 1935 ~ August 6, 2016

Peggy Joyce McDaniel Davis, 80, died August 6, 2016. She was born December 1, 1935 in Cornersville, TN. Peggy grew up in Cornersville, TN. She was the oldest of four children. She had two younger brothers and a younger sister. After her graduation from High School in 1953, she worked as a clerk-stenographer. She and Thurman were married on July 10, 1955. In 1957, they moved to Murfreesboro, TN where their two older sons, Dave and Dan, were born. In 1961, Thurman started to work for General Electric on Redstone Arsenal, and they moved to Hunstville, Alabama, where Darrell was born.

In 1966, the family was transferred to Oklahoma City. Peggy enjoyed being involved in the boys' school activities and attending their sporting events.

When the boys were older, Peggy returned to work. Her most challenging and rewarding job was serving as Personnel Manager of Dillard's in Shepherd Mall for several years. In later years, she enjoyed her work as a part-time medical receptionist until her retirement in 1997.

Peggy loved her family and took great pleasure in caring for them. She said one of her greatest blessings was living close to the grandchildren and watching them grow. The great-granddaughters were a special joy. Holidays were (and still are) celebrated at their home or at their cabin in Duncan, OK. Peggy always decorated for the holidays. Christmas was her favorite time of year. Also, she enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles.

Peggy grew up in the Church of Christ in Cornersville, TN, where her grandfather served as an elder for many years. Her youngest brother in now an elder there. Peggy loved Mayfair Church. She especially enjoyed helping with the funeral luncheons. She also enjoyed sending cards to people – in good times and in bad. She felt this was her special ministry.

God's word was very important to her. After their oldest son passed away in 2010, the verses that helped her most were Jeremiah's words in chapter 15, verse 16: 'Your words are what sustain me.' And 2nd Timothy 2:11, 'Even when we are too weak to have any faith left, God is faithful and He will help us.' (These verses are still on her refrigerator today.) She loved the 23 Psalm and quoted it multiple times during many long and sleepless nights.

Memorial Service will be at 1pm on Wed., August 10, 2016 at Mayfair Church of Christ.
