Nettie Florene (Bonds) Daughty

Nov 18, 1918 ~ Mar 18, 2013

Services for Mrs. Nettie Florene Daughtry, 94, of Canadian, TX will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Church of Christ of Durham, OK with Matt Dillon, officiating and Mike Flynn, assisting. Burial will follow in Eller Flat Prairie Dell Cemetery in Hemphill County under the direction of Hughes Funeral Home of Canadian, TX.

Florene passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 in Canadian, TX.

Florene as she was known to all, was born to Richard Lewis Bonds and Nettie May Wamsley Bonds in Elkhart, KS on November 18, 1918. This was during the influenza outbreak which took her mother and two uncles shortly after the baby's birth. Her first few years were spent with her grandparents, Robert and Emma Green Bonds in Elk City, OK until her father decided it was time for her to join the rest of the family. From that date on she lived in a single parent family with her father and siblings.

She married Jack Daughtry on November 12, 1982 while living in Princeton, IL where they stayed until returning to Jack's family ranch in West Texas near Durham, OK in 1995. She had been ill for several years with dementia and when it became apparent that Jack could no longer care for her, she entered the Edwards Abraham Memorial Home in Canadian, TX where she has resided the past seven years. In 1982 she gave her life to her Lord in baptism, and was an active member of the congregations in the area where they lived.

Florene was an avid fisherman and was always ready to go fishing. She was a very friendly person who loved life, never met a stranger, and was considered an excellent hostess. During her lifetime, she resided in the states of Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Washington, Illinois and Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Nettie Bonds; brothers: Cecil, Luther, Frank and Loren and one sister, Vivian Rowles. On April 1, 2012 Jack Daughtry, her husband of thirty years, preceded her in death following a lingering illness.

She was the last to survive her generation and leaves to mourn her passing two godchildren, Jackie Clementz, of Ohio, IL and Gary Wade of Canute, OK, four nephews, eleven nieces, a host of great nephews and nieces, her good friend and MPA Fred Collier, and many lifelong friends, including her Durham Church family.
