Malcolm Edward "Butch" Cushman Jr.
April 10, 1944 ~ July 25, 2023

Malcolm "Butch" Edward Cushman Jr., age 79, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, July 25, 2023 in Shawnee.

He was born April 10, 1944 in Dexter, Maine to Malcolm and Thelma L. (Spratt) Cushman, Sr.

Butch was raised in Dexter, Maine. After High School he joined the U.S. Air Force then was shipped to Pakistan during the Vietnam War. He did basic training at Loring AFB in Limestone, Maine, then was stationed in Goodfellow AFB in Texas. He proudly served his country from from1963-1969 until he was honorably discharged.

Upon his discharge from the military, he later met Sondra Tatum in Odessa, Texas on a blind date. Eight days later they were married on May 7, 1976 that began a wonderful 47 year love story. After marriage they moved to Glendale, AZ for a short time, they moved to Colorado Springs, CO for four years, then Nicoma Park, OK for a year before making there home in Macomb for 18 years. They then moved to Shawnee where they have lived for the last 22 years.

Butch had a career in sales until his retirement in 2001.

He was on the Macomb School Board and was the founder of the Westside Neighborhood watch in Shawnee. He enjoyed spending time with his puppy Olivia, woodworking, carpentry, but the focal point of his life was his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and 3 sisters, Betty Burgess, Skip Blake and Jackie Cushman.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sondra Cushman of the home; son, Justin Cushman and wife Genise of Denver, CO; 3 daughters, Victoria Stewart and husband Jeremy of Shawnee, OK, Carmen Vasquez and husband Taz of El Paso, TX and Nichole Cushman of Shawnee, OK; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.

Per Butch's wishes no formal services will be held. Cremation arrangements by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. There will be no viewing.
