Paul Andrew Cross

Sept. 9, 1921 ~ Feb. 23, 2004

Funeral services will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home of Wasco on Friday, February 27, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., at the Christ Community Church in Wasco for Paul Andrew Cross, age 82, of Wasco, who passed away on February 23, at his residence in Wasco. Reverend Wayne Montgomery will officiate and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park.

Paul Cross was born in Eastern Oklahoma near Fort Smith, Arkansas. At a very young age, he and his parents moved to a rural area close to Stigler, OK, where he resided till the age of eighteen. As a young man he journeyed to Bristow, OK, for employment picking cotton while residing with relatives. During this excursion he met his future wife, Elva Mae Childress and on December 20th of 1939, they were married. This union produced five sons and one daughter. Paul and Elva, unsure where they would finally make their home, moved from OK to CA several times as verified by their children's birthplaces.

In the year of 1956, the Cross family made Wasco, CA their settling place. Never hesitant to try any occupation, Paul devoted the majority of his life as a mechanic. As testament to his varied talents, he devoted nearly nine years of his working life as an employee of the Wasco Police Department. Paul was referred to by many townspeople as "One of the best officers Wasco ever had." Paul is remembered as diligently pursuing clean living and a good neighbor. He never hesitated to testify of the fulfillment of life following his baptism in 1993 at the Christ Community Church.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Elva of Wasco; children, Frank of Wyoming, Carl of Alaska, Richard of Bakersfield, and Odis, Pauline and Larry of Wasco; seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; sisters, Edith of Bakersfield and Mildred of Wilberton, OK.
