Mass of Christian Burial will be said for Guy William Cromwell, 48, of Wakita, at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2008 in the Wakita School Gymnasium. The Reverend Mike Wheelahan will officiate. Burial will follow on the Cromwell Ranch. The arrangements are under the direction of Hills-Ely Funeral Home, Medford.
Guy William Cromwell was born November 30, 1960 to Frank and Mary Olive Eller Cromwell, in Alva, Oklahoma. He died in his pasture in NW Grant County December 22, 2008. He attended Wakita Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1979. He played football, and was a charter member of the National Honor Society.
He was an FFA member and was named a State Farmer. Guy also was a very active Boy Scout member, and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Oklahoma State University School of Geology and worked as an oil field geologist for a few years. He later attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University to earn a degree in science education and a teaching certificate.
He taught 1 year at Stigler, Oklahoma, 15 years at Garber and 5 years at Wakita. Guy was the Academic Team coach at Garber and Wakita and had been named Teacher of the Year at both schools. In 2008 he was named the Oklahoma Academic Team Coach of the Year.
Guy also loved guns and shooting, and shot with the Oklahoma Rifle Team in state and national competitions. He also was a 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer. He was a member of the Wakita Lions Club and a faculty representative to the Wakita Education Foundation. Another love was cattle and ranching, and he enjoyed the time with his cattle on the Cromwell Ranch west of Wakita.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Laura Jane Cromwell in 1973, and his father, Frank Cromwell in 2008. He is survived by his mother, Mary Olive Cromwell of Wakita, his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Anna �Annie� and Jody Evans of Guymon, his nephews, Frank Evans of Edmond and Nick Evans of Alva, plus many cousins, other relatives, friends and students. Memorials may be made to the Cromwell Family Scholarship or the Wakita Education Foundation, with Hills-Ely Funeral Home, P.O. Box 280, Medford, OK 73759 serving as custodian of the funds.
