Cindy Carol Crites, lifelong resident of Ponca City, passed Saturday, at her home. She was 58.
Cindy was born March 2, 1951 in Ponca City, the daughter of Robert Crites and Elda Valentine Frazier Crites. She received her early education in the Ponca City Schools.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Ponca City and was baptized at the age of eight. She had helped in the church nursery in earlier years and later helped her mother in operating a child daycare center.
Cindy was a voracious reader and preferred non-fiction. She was extraordinarily intelligent and enjoyed a good, lively conversation on just about any topic. She was a writer and had started two different pieces of work prior to her death.
Cindy had a wonderful sense of humor and expressed exceptional warmth that came through as you got to know her. Her hugs were special because they represented her acceptance of you.
Cindy seemed to have an affinity with the unwanted stray pets. She was very fond of her cat named EZ and in earlier years had a special attachment to her cat named Memphis. She also collected kaleidoscopes and loved their beauty. Cindy was an amazing woman and through much illness and preconceived ideas she remained kind and without bitterness
She is survived by her three cousins, Nick Kanelakos of Sulphur, Louisiana, Ann Fontaine of North Carolina and Joel Gallagher of Panama. She also leaves behind many many friends who checked on her and helped her in so many ways.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009 in the Parlor of the First Baptist Church, 218 South 6th.
Memorial contributions may be made in Cindys name to the North Shore Animal League America, 25 Davis Ave., Port Washington, New York 11050.
