Karen L (Hogue) Crampton
Dec 7, 1942 ~ Mar 16, 2016

Karen L. Crampton age 73 of Purcell, OK went home to be with her Lord and Savior, early Wednesday morning, March 16, 2016 after a brief illness.

She was born on December 7, 1942 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was an only child born to Carl A. Hogue and Lorraine B. (Sellers) Hogue. Karen grew up in Rainbow Bend, Kansas until the 8th grade. She finished her schooling in Winfield, Kansas graduating with the class of 1960. After high school she attended Southwestern College in Winfield for two years. On January 11, 1963, in Slate Valley, KS, Karen married the love of her life, Ralph V. Crampton. Together they raised three sons, Vance, Stacy and Derrick and lived in various towns in Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma over the next 30 years. They first made their home in Derby, KS, living there seven years; then three years in Laverne, OK; Perryton, TX, for 4 years; Watonga nine years; McAlester, OK, for five years, all before settling in Purcell, OK in 1994.

Karen worked as a homemaker until her boys were all in school. Her first job outside of the home was working for a tax accountant. While living in Watonga she worked for the Watonga Schools as a Secretary for the Title Nine Indian Counselor. While living in Enid she worked as a secretary for a group of Attorney's. Then in 1990, she took her first job with the Oklahoma Dept. of Corrections as the Secretary to the Warden at the 'Jackie Brannon Correctional Center' in McAlester, OK. After moving to Purcell, OK in 1994, she became the Secretary to the Warden at 'Joseph Harp Correctional Center' in Lexington, OK where she retired in 2010.

Karen was a faithful Christian and active in Baptist Churches where ever she lived. After moving to Purcell she became a member of the Purcell First Baptist Church and taught children Sunday school. It didn't take long to recognize that you couldn't say Karen without saying Ralph, they did everything together. They sang in the church choir, they were on the funeral dinners and hospitality committee together; they helped with the church medical clinic; worked as volunteers on the Oklahoma Disaster Relief team and helped as substitutes on the McClain County Election Board. Most of all, Karen loved her grandchildren and supported them in their school band and sporting events. For her own enjoyment, she liked cooking, canning, crocheting and oil painting. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, Carl and Lorraine Hogue; Two grandchildren, Lance and Leah;
