Travis Cox

May 12, 1939 ~ Nov. 30, 2012

CHEROKEE - Travis Cox of Cherokee, Okla., passed quietly from this life to be with our Lord on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the age of 73. He was born May 12, 1939, to Ruby and Lloyd Cox, where he lived on the family farm.

Shortly after graduation from Haworth High School in 1958, he started working on the pipeline. He later joined the United States Army in 1962, and was honorably discharged in 1968.

Travis went on to work 30 years for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife as a fish technician, with the majority of the time spent at Byron State Fish Hatchery. After he "retired," he enjoyed farming and raising cattle.

In 1967, Travis married Ellen Myers and adopted her two children. Travis and Ellen later had two other sons.

Travis was later blessed to marry Nita Pelter on Dec. 5, 1987, in Cherokee, Okla.

His biggest passions in life were hunting, fishing and ranching.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Robert.

Travis is survived by his wife, Nita; daughter, Anna Cooper and husband J.R. of Hemet, Calif.; sons, Charles and wife Ruth and Travis Jr. and companion Teresa Mast, all of Cherokee, Okla.; and one sister, Delois Holladay of Little Rock, Ark.

Travis was a member of First Christian Church in Cherokee.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Assembly of God Church in Haworth. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m. Friday evening at the home of Larry and Shari Cox, 7 miles north of Broken Bow on Highway 259, beside the Shady Oaks Restaurant. Also, the family will be available after the service. Arrangements by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be given to First Christian Church, Cherokee, Okla.
