Harold Cox, 80, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 5, 2012. Harold was born on April 13, 1932 in Wilburton, Oklahoma, the son of Jesse and Alma Cox and the youngest of five siblings.
Harold is survived by his wife of 59 years, Geri Cox of the home; two daughters, Jana Cox of Norman and Carla Hawkins and her husband Bob of Goldsby; four grandchildren, Jessica Peterson, Jay Cox II, John Hawkins, Sara Hawkins; one great granddaughter, Khyla Hawkins; one brother, Bill Cox and his wife Maude; and many nephews and nieces.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jay Cox; one sister, Katherine Monroe; and two brothers, Howard Cox and Jack Cox.
Harold graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City. Following high school, he attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas on a football scholarship. He left school to join the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. While on a short leave during the Christmas holidays, he married the love of his life, Geri Cox on December 15, 1952. After his military service, he earned a Business degree from Oklahoma City University with a double major in Political Science and Public Administration. He began his life-long career in the real estate title industry working as an agency rep for American First Title and Trust in Oklahoma City. He was later hired by Southwest Title & Trust Company to help create their state agency system and eventually moved to Norman to manage their Cleveland County operations. In 1969, Harold purchased American-First Abstract Company in Norman which he and his family owned and operated until the sale of the business to Old Republic Title Company in 2008. During his career, Harold was active in the Oklahoma Land Title Association, serving on numerous committees as well as serving as a Director and President. Other memberships include the Homebuilders Association, Real Estate Board, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Norman Regional Hospital Foundation, State Auditors Advisory Board, LTIC Advisory Board, American Guaranty Title Company Board of Directors, and the Norman Chapter of the American Red Cross.
First and foremost, Harold was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He was a gifted leader and a mentor to many. He was very dear to his family and friends who enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor and his positive outlook on life. Harold and his wife Geri loved to travel and especially enjoyed the time they spent together at their condo on the beach on South Padre Island.
The family appreciates everyone's kind thoughts, support and prayers during this difficult time. We also extend our thanks to Craig Wood, Tim Robinson, Richard Henke and Janice Coley, and the dedicated staff at Loving Care and Moore Medical center for the exceptional care they provided during Harold's illness.

A private family memorial service will be held to honor their loved one.
Arrangements for Harold and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
