Oma Courtney, 93, Tahlequah, OK., died Sunday February 24,, 2008 at her Tahlequah home. Mrs. Cortney was born May 7, 1914 to David H. Benham and Julia Edgemond Benham in a log cabin in the Green community of Adair County.
She was married to George E. Bean of Christie on January 6, 1936. Two daughters were born to this union. She married Chester E. Cortney of Tahlequah, OK on October 20, 1963. Mrs. Courtney made her home in Oklahoma her entire life. She was a retired licensed practical nurse.
Survivors include; two daughters; Roxanna Ritchie, Tulsa, OK and Clarinda Vincent, Purgitsville, WV, three brothers; David Benhan, Stilwell, OK., Ned Benham, Olivehurst, CA., and Donald E. Benham, Middleburg, FL., one sister; Dewey Keeter, Farmington, AR., eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Chester in 1983, two sisters; Ada Burse of Stockton, CA and Susie Scarberry of Willeta, CA, two brothers; Loyd Benham of Forest Hill, CA and Robert Benham of Olivehurst, CA, and her son-in-law, Phillip Vincent of Purgitsville, WV.
Mrs. Courtney designated her body be given to medical science. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held May 7, 2008 at the fellowship Hall, first Methodist Church, Stilwell, OK.
