Robert Leon "Bobby" Coulter

Robert Leon "Bobby" Coulter
July 12, 1936 - February 16, 2021

Robert (Bobby) Leon Coulter was born to Everette and Rena Coulter July 12th, 1936, on the Coulter family homestead Northwest of Helena, OK. He was called home by the Lord suddenly on February 16th, 2021.

He went to grade school in a one room schoolhouse in McWillie, OK until 8th grade. To finish his education, he went to Helena High school for 4 years, much of the time, riding his horse the 5 miles to school. It was while attending school at Helena that he met the love of his life, Karen Jean (Butch) Davis. They were married in 1955. During their marriage of 65 years, they had 6 children.

Leon was a jack of all trades and had many different jobs throughout his lifetime. He ultimately became an oilfield mechanic for over 40 years with Union Texas Petroleum. He became so accomplished that many times he would repair a unit that others had given up on.

As talented as he was as a mechanic, his true passion was being a cowboy. He personified the term "horse whisperer". Many times taking what others considered a renegade colt and turning it into a kid's horse. His ability also extended to all animals which he demonstrated in his handling of dogs, cattle and even buffalo.

Leon was just a natural story teller and could tell one that you'd heard before; and make it so interesting that you couldn't wait to hear it again. His co-workers would often ask to hear a story to help the time go by easier and he always seemed to come up with one that had them laughing through the day. One of which is when his uncle, Raymond, went to help him get his driver's license. They asked Leon his full name and Raymond jokingly said "Bobby Leon Coulter". They put it on his license even though nobody knew who Bobby was.

Leon is survived by his wife, Karen Coulter of Helena; his 6 children, Cole and Jamie Coulter of Goltry; Loy Coulter of Enid; Becky and Greg Bules of Lahoma; Tania and Doug Vaughn of Kingston; Levi Coulter and Len Morris of Newalla; and Heather and Bart Lewis of Piedmont. He had 10 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He will be missed by his family and many friends. There will be a celebration of his life at a later date.
