Donald “Don” Wayne Couffer, 56 of Norman, OK passed away Sunday October 9th, 2011 at his home.
Don was born on Nov. 8, 1954 in Pawhuska, OK. He was raised in Oklahoma City, OK by his mother Georgia Hampson (Couffer) and his father William Hampson. Don was the third eldest of six siblings. Don met the love of his life, Mary Harvey in 1976 in Houston, TX. They married in February of 1977.
Don had many passions in life. He was a enthusiast of nearly all types of music. Don played drums and encouraged his son, Josh Couffer, to learn and appreciate his love for musical instruments. Don was also an avid collector; his collections ranged from coins to knives and beer signs and related memorabilia. Don also enjoyed the companionship of his pets, all animals alike (dogs, cats, ferrets, birds, you name it.)
Don was no stranger to hard work, he primarily worked in construction the majority of his life. Don still found the energy to help his family and friends and even volunteered for the American Red Cross in the aftermath of the 1995 OKC tragedy.
Don Couffer is survived by his wife, Mary, son Josh and daughter-in-law Jennifer, of Norman; parents Georgia and William Hampson, of Oklahoma City; brothers James Hampson and Ronnie Hampson of Edmond; and sisters Linda Lybrand, of Yukon, Brenda Duesman of Oklahoma City and Peggy Hollis of Edmond. Don was loved by his family and friends and will always be remembered with a misty eyed smile.
A memorial for Don Couffer will be held Friday October 14th, 2011 at 2 pm at Havenbrook Funeral Home in their event center, 3401 Havenbrook Street, Norman, OK.
