He had a successful law enforcement career working for the Comanche County Sheriff’s Department, Marlow Police Department, and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics. He later went to work for WinStar World Casino and Resort. Steve had an excellent work ethic, a great sense of humor, and was loved by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Benjamin Couey.

Survivors include two sons, Jeremy Couey and wife Lauren of Franklin, Massachusetts and Steven Couey of Lawton; daughter, Jennifer Crutcher of Kaufman, Texas; sister, Darla Vaughn of Moore; brother, Jimmy Garner of Duncan; five grandchildren, Jackson Crutcher (11), Avery Couey (10), Lillian Crutcher (7), Aiden Couey (7), and Brantley Couey (5); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family suggests memorial donations be made in honor of Steve to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org/donate, by calling (800) 342-2382, or they can be dropped off at the funeral home.

A small private service will be held at a later date.
