It is with saddened, yet thankful hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful, beloved Mrs. Sharon Kay (Dowdy) Corley on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at her home in Stillwater, following an extended illness. Surrounded by her loving family, Sharon's final victory was claimed by the Lord!
Sharon was born on May 16, 1941 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Mr. and Mrs. George Warren Dowdy. At the age of 6 months, she moved to Pawhuska, Oklahoma with her parents, Warren and Ova, and her sister Patria. At early age, Mr. and Mrs. Dowdy instilled in both of their girls a love for God, church, family and music. Sharon's life was built upon such love.
Sharon attended Pawhuska Public Schools from kindergarten through her senior year, graduating with the PHS Class of 1959. She was active in choir, F.H.A. and cheerleading, and was accompanist for the high school choir for 2 years, a member of the choir's sextet and a state soloist. Sharon was the first state FHA officer from Pawhuska, and was the song leader for the state. She was proud to sing OKLAHOMA at the National FHA convention in Kansas City. Sharon loved music.
On September 21, 1961, Sharon married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Bob Corley. They had 2 sons, Phillip Craig and Michael Keith. Both boys were exceptional athletes, and as their number one fan, she did not miss an event. Many of the friends Sharon cherished were her traveling buddies, as they supported their Huskies together. Sharon loved watching her boys grow into the fine men they have become.
When her son, Phillip, married Katie, Sharon finally got her first girl in a family of all men. The birth of her first grandson, Ky Dowdy Corley, ushered in a new role for Sharon. Being "Memaw" was the greatest for her. She would tell, with delight, "Ky" stories, and there are many! Getting to watch her second-generation wrestler was a highlight for Sharon. Soon her first granddaughter, Addie, was born, and oh, what fun! Someone to shop with! Sharon loved to watch Addie dance, once again enjoying the music. Addie became a member of the OSU Pom Squad, and Sharon loved that, having been a cheerleader herself. She would say, "Cheerleaders never die, they just grow up and turn into moms and MeMaws and get louder!" Ky used to always say when he wrestled he could hear his dad and Memaw!
When Mike married Teah, Sharon was happy, for both her boys had found women they loved. Mike and Teah had their beautiful Blythe, another girl! Could life get any better? Then they were blessed with "Fine Cline", Sharon's youngest grandson! Blythe loved softball and golf, and MeMaw, even while doing chemo, went to treatment and then to Blythe's softball games. Cline loved to hunt, fish and ride 4-wheelers with his MeMaw, and she also loved watching Cline play baseball and football. Sharon considered getting to attend their events as perks of doing treatment in Oklahoma City, where Mike and Teach's family live.
Ky married Jessica, and then had Memaw's great granddaughters, Collyn and Camryn. Sharon found yet another opportunity to take her treatment in the city, and then go visit their adorable little girls. Sharon had a beautiful way of looking for the bright side of things.
Later, with the birth of Cannon, Sharon enjoyed watching this precious, little curious boy grow and play. She realized that being surrounded by young, enthusiastic life was a respite for her soul.
The Corley family enjoyed spending time together outdoors, and Sharon found much enjoyment in going to the lake and to their ranch south of town. She loved that her grandchildren often brought along their friends to spend the 4th of July with them. The more the better. Friends, family and their friends were always welcome.
Sharon was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pawhuska, where she was active singing, playing the piano and organ, teaching Sunday School and leading the FBC bell choir she loved to call the Ding-a-Lings. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at Oklahoma State University, Heeko-GFWC and Huskie Moms. Sharon taught piano for over 40 years and worked as a kindergarten assistant for 23 years at Pawhuska Kindergarten, further sharing her love for music with young, enthusiastic children. She loved her friends, family, Bible study group, church and the town of Pawhuska. What a blessing!
Survivors include her husband, Robert Lynn (Bob) Corley, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; son Phillip Craig Corley and wife, Katie, of Stillwater; son Michael Keith Corley and wife, Teah, of Midwest City. Grandchildren Ky Corley and wife, Jessica; Addie Corley, Blythe Corley and Cline Corley. Great grandchildren Collyn, Camryn and Cannon Corley; sister Patria Yount and husband, Bill, of Pawhuska; brothers-in-law Ron Corley of Duncan and Ken Corley of Pawhuska; nephews Joe Blythe, Trey Blythe, Chris Blythe and wife, Carla; Clint Corley and wife, Jaqueta; nieces Terri Culver and husband, Jon; Kay Wilson and husband, Alan; Cate Buckley and husband, Lance; and Courtney Hendren and husband, Dusty; and a host of other great nieces, great nephews, family and friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, George Warren and Ova Dowdy; her parents-in-law, Gerald and Evelyne Corley, and sisters-in-law, Laura Corley and Cynthia Corley.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018,
1:30PM, at the First Baptist Church in Pawhuska.
