Cynthia Ann Davis Corley, 73, of Duncan, died Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City from injuries sustained in a lake accident at her beloved Big Fish.
A memorial service celebrating her extraordinary life will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018 at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Arnold Nelson officiating.
A reception will follow at the Duncan Golf and Tennis Club.
Inurnment will be in the columbarium at First Christian Church at a later date with private family services also planned at the Davis family cemetery in Shamrock, Texas, her childhood home.
Survivors include her devoted husband, lifelong partner of 53 years and best friend, Ron of the home; her son Clint, his wife Jaquita and their three children, Caroline, Claire and Cole of Nichols Hills; her daughter Cate, her husband Lance and their sons Hank and George of Overland Park, Kan.; her mother, Cecyl Davis of Shamrock; her sister. Mary Helen Daniel of Roanoke, Texas; her brother George Davis and his wife Deanna of Oklahoma City; and her sister-in-law Nancy Davis of Kelton, Texas.
She loved deeply her grandchildren and was an amazing Nana, mother, wife and friend.
She was preceded in death by her father George Davis and her brother, Neil Champion Davis.
Cynthia was born June 3, 1944 in Tulsa. She moved to Shamrock where her
mother, now 98, still lives and where she attended elementary school,
graduated from Shamrock High in 1962 and was named Miss Shamrock that same
year.
She met Ron in Stillwater at Oklahoma State University where she
was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and remained an enthusiastic
alum. They married in July 1965.
She graduated with a degree in elementary education while Ron completed a military tour of duty in Vietnam, then moved to Norman where he earned his law degree from the University of Oklahoma.
They moved to Duncan in 1970 where he joined the law practice of Garvin, Bonney and Weaver, later Garvin, Bonney, Weaver and Corley, and she taught pre-school, kindergarten and first grade.
Soon after, she launched a commitment to church and community, allowing her beauty, charm, grace, poise, compassion and dedication to tirelessly touch virtually every charitable cause in town and to serve as an example for others.
She was a pillar of First Christian Church.
Cynthia was a member of its governing board, an elder, a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, president of the Christian Women's Fellowship Group 2, a donor and for decades, a member of every significant committee, project or movement.
Her generosity and caring spirit oozed throughout the community, usually as a steady background voice committed to making things better.
At one time or another, she was president of the Christian Women's Fellowship and a member or leader of the Toy Shop, PEO FJ Chapter, Kelita Study Club, Aequalis Study Club, Gabriel's House, Duncan Regional Hospital Health Foundation board, the Duncan Area Literary Council where she was a tutor, the United Way of Stephens County, Duncan Youth Council, Traditional Study Club, Beautiful Day, book clubs and birthday lunch clubs.
Cynthia loved to entertain, travel, read and spend time with her friends,
often sharing the warmth and hospitality of their home – first on Country
Club Road and later at Big Fish – for magical and memorable events large and
small.
Honorary pallbearers are Joe Vermedahl, Terry Snider, Bob Johnson,
Mike Weaver. Gaylon Hunt, Carl Slifer, Ed Darling and Ronnie Craig.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Duncan Area Literary Council, 2300 Country Club Road, Duncan, 73533; the First Christian Church, 916 West Walnut Avenue, Duncan, 73533; or the Duncan Regional Hospital Health Foundation, 2210 DRH Loop Road, Duncan, 73533.
