Johnnie Franklin Corbin, Jr. a longtime resident of Durant, Oklahoma, beloved husband and father, passed away in Sherman, Texas, Monday, March 31, 2014 at the age of 83. He was born to Johnnie Franklin and Myrtle Mae (Dodd) Corbin, Sr. on November 22, 1930. Johnnie married Rebecca (Becky) Reynolds in Armstrong, Oklahoma on June 28, 1952.
Johnnie was a Deacon and dedicated member of the Fairview Baptist Church. He was a lineman and inventory clerk for OG&E for over 30 years. He also worked as a private electrical contractor. He was a member of the 45th Infantry National Guard Unit of Oklahoma and served two years during the Korean War when the National Guard was mobilized. Johnnie was a man who knew what hard work was and never backed down from his responsibilities. He loved working with his hands –making things out of wood, and also enjoyed sitting quietly reading a good western book. Johnnie appreciated nature and could often be found outdoors enjoying it.
Mr. Corbin is survived by his wife, Becky of the home; daughters, Vicky Squires and husband David of Milton, Florida, Debbie Young and husband Clay of Davis, Oklahoma and Sherry Harlin and husband Steve of Durant, Oklahoma; Brother, William “Tom” Corbin and wife Suzanne of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Louise Riddle of Tyler, Texas and Janice Akin of Denison, Texas; grandchildren, Cyndi Thompson and husband Jeremy, Greenville, South Carolina, Jen Weed and husband Ryan, Fairhope, Alabama, Becca Hendrix and husband Nathan, Pensacola, Florida, Morgan Robinson, Shawnee, Oklahoma, Josh Young and wife Karale, Bar Harbor, Maine, Jeremy Harlin and wife Nicole, Calera, Oklahoma, Nichole Turnage and husband Bryant, Shawnee, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Noah Thompson, Grace Thompson, Ruth Thompson, Jonathan Thompson, Emma Weed, Sarah Weed, Kyli Robinson, Roselyn Young, Henry Young, Dakota Poteet, Colton Poteet, Cody Harlin and Corbin Turnage and a host of extended family and friends.
Mr. Corbin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Myrtle Corbin and Brothers-in-laws, Jerald Riddle and Bob Akin.
A Memorial Service in honor of his memory will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2014 at Fairview Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma with Rev. Bill Ledbetter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Fairview Baptist Church Building Fund, 1200 University, Durant, Oklahoma 74701.
