Gerald Dean "Gary" Corbett

Gerald Dean "Gary" Corbett
Apr 18, 1940 ~ Feb 6, 2017

Gerald Dean "Gary" Corbett was born April 18, 1940 in Anthony, Kansas, son of Dean Oliver and Imogene Mae (Francis) Corbett. His family moved to Beaver, Oklahoma, where he graduated from high school in 1958. At an early age, Gary became a productive, hard worker, helping many local farmers, so he could help support and provide for himself. He maintained his work ethic throughout his entire life.

On October 10, 1958, Gary entered the United States Air Force at Otis Air Force Base. He spent the next twelve years serving as an air craft mechanic, flight engineer and a pilot at several different bases in the United States. During his tour of service, he was able to travel to 22 different countries, including Vietnam, where he had 3,033 landing and take offs during the Vietnam War. Gary was honorably discharged on February 8, 1970.

Gary returned to Oklahoma, making his home in Bartlesville, where he worked setting up mobile homes for Conway Twitty and later as a welder.

On May 31, 1991, he married Diana Purdum in Bartlesville. They moved to Anthony, Kansas. Gary worked for Farmer's Oil as a dispatcher. Having a great passion for farming he went to work for cousins, John and Mike Francis, helping on their farm where he enjoyed working with the cattle especially the newborns, and driving truck for M&S Trucking, hauling cattle, fertilizer and anhydrous.

Gary was a member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW and American Legion. He was baptized into the Christian Church in Pampa, Texas. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed spending time outside with Diana, arguing over their garden. Most of all he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.

On February 6, 2017, Gary passed away at the Robert J. Dole VAMC in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 76 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deanna Kay Corbett; and brother, Larry Gene Corbett.

Gary will be deeply missed by his wife, Diana Corbett; his sister, Donna Sue Meloy; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other relatives and many friends. He is also survived by a daughter, Rebecca from a previous marriage and her children.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2017 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony, Kansas.

Burial will follow in Forest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the TLC Unit at the VAMC in Wichita and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
