Michael Lee Cooper

Michael Lee Cooper
November 17, 1944 ~ March 21, 2016

Michael Lee Cooper was born in Lucedale, Mississippi on November 17, 1944 to Ollis Cooper and Mamie Lou Dickerson Cooper. He passed away Monday, March 21, 2016 in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

After graduating from Lucedale High School, at his mother's request, he attended college in Kentucky. Michael decided college was not for him and returned to Lucedale to work at the shipyard. Eventually, Michael found his career and he joined the 798 Pipeliner's Union where he retired after 33 years of service. He resided in Guthrie and was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Gassers and Geezers.

What brought him the most joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He loved hanging out with them and rarely called them by their given names. They were Brooks "The Boy", Jackson "The other Boy" and Cooper Ann "The Little Sh**". He enjoyed taking the boys to NASCAR races and cheering on Little E. He was so excited that Cooper Ann decided to attend the University of Southern Mississippi so he could cheer on the Golden Eagles. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, especially with "The Boy".

Another passion was his love of old cars and trucks. "The Other Boy"He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Sandra Purvis. shared his passion and they worked together to restore a 1951 Chevy truck. He loved teaching Cooper Ann how to drive and maintain his 1963 Biscayne. He brought a lot of fun to his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Sandra Purvis.

He is survived by his daughter Lora Leigh Robinson and her husband Brad, his son, Michael Lee Cooper, Jr., and his sister Kim Lewis and her husband Lonzo. He is also survived by his grandchildren Cooper Ann, Brooks and Jackson Robinson and Abby Goff, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 28, 2016 at Rocky Creek Cemetery, in Lucedale, Mississippi.

Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
