John D. Cooper, Jr., longtime resident of Stroud joined our Lord Jesus on Thursday, March 6, 2014. He was 71 years old.
John D. was born February 18, 1943 to Mary Lou Groom Cooper and John D. Cooper, Sr. in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
He and his family moved to the Kendrick area in the late 1950's. He attended Kendrick schools before moving to the Stroud School District.
John D. graduated from Stroud High School in 1961. After graduating from high school, John D. attended Oklahoma State University and then returned home to the work field. John worked a variety of positions in the oil and gas industry including owning and operating his own pipeline and construction company. Throughout his life he always maintained a farm and ranch operation which was the vocation he most enjoyed.
He became a member of the First Baptist Church in Milfay, Oklahoma in 1986, but was currently attending and teaching class at Deer Creek Baptist Church south of Stroud.
Survivors include father his father John D. Cooper, Sr. of Stroud, Oklahoma; four daughters: Shelli and husband, Jim Martin of Yale, Oklahoma; Danna and husband, Darrel Kee of Stroud; and Emily and Hallie Cooper of Prague, Oklahoma; two brothers; T. Zack Cooper of Los Angeles, California; and Charles F. Cooper of Union City, Oklahoma; one sister, Clara and husband, Jim Hodgens of Stroud; six grandchildren; Harrison Cooper of Sterling, Colorado; Olivia and Audrey Martin of Yale; and Robin, Ethan and Sydney Kee of Stroud; Nellie Faye Cooper, mother of Shelli and Danna; several nieces and nephews; many other family members and friends.
Preceded in death by mother, Mary Lou Groom Cooper; son, Bryan Cooper and Crystal Cooper, mother of Emily and Hallie.
Memorial services will be held at Deer Creek Baptist Church south of Stroud on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Haines officiating.
Service is under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.
