Dr. William Z "Bill"Cook Jr
January 15, 1927 ~ June 30, 2017

Dr. William Z. (Bill) Cook JR of Ponca City went home to be with his Lord and Savior with his loving family by his side. He was 90 years of age. William was born January 15, 1927 in Cushing, OK to William Z. Cook Sr and Jessie Talitha Cumi McCall Cook.

Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in the Second Baptist Church of Ponca City with Pastor Ken Newport, Pastor officiating. Interment will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, KS. Arrangements are in care of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City. The family has requested memorial contributions be made in Dr. William Cook's name to the Mission Fund of Second Baptist Church 1112 West Grand Ponca City, OK 74601

Bill's father was involved in Oil Refinery Construction so as a child growing up the family moved from West Texas to Virginia following work. He joined the merchant marines at the age of 17 in an effort to help supply goods during the War. Thus beginning his college career later. Bill attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK and O.U. Medical School. While attending O.B.U. he met the love of his life Norma Lee Powell and they were married August 24, 1952 in Norman, Oklahoma. They made their first home together in Oklahoma City, OK. Upon his graduating Bill was enlisted into the U.S. Air Force Flight Surgeon and he began his duty upon his completion of Internship, serving in Ardmore, OK. Bill receiving his honorable discharge as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. 

In 1958 Bill opened his private Medical practice in Stilwell, OK and he served the community for 25 years. Bill felt the call to the Ministry and he was Ordained Minister of the Gospel through the Stilwell First Baptist Church in 1985. Bill preached and taught Family Life Conferences for 33 years holding meeting in Montana, Washington, Alaska and other parts of the Northwest with his wife and family by his side helping. Some of Bill's other accomplishments were he was an ordained Deacon in Immanuel Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OK in 1955. Bill moved with his wife to Ponca City in 2002 and he was very active in his Church, Second Baptist Church of Ponca City teaching a Bible study class for several years. Bill also enjoyed spending time with his family, Camping, Hunting and Fishing and continued to do Family Life Conferences with his wife. Bill continued to Doctor those that needed his help and practicing Medicine until his graduation to Glory.

Bill will be greatly missed by his loving family; wife Norma of 64 years, four daughters: Nancy and husband Pastor Ken Newport of Ponca City, OK, Mary Stinson and husband Bill of Alexander City, AL, Susan Cook of Owasso, OK, Kim Ballard and husband Wayne of Strawberry Plaines, TN, 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 3 soon to be great grandchildren. 1 sister: Cumi Brewster and husband Jack of Nashville, TN

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and 1 grandson; baby Jake Henderson Ballard.
