Vestal Stevens Cook, Sr. a longtime resident of Coalgate, Oklahoma, passed away at his residence on May 6, 2012 at the age of 83 years. He was born on May 28, 1928 to Frank F. Cook Sr. and Laura Irene (Stevens) Cook.
He attended and graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City and also attended Oklahoma University. He and Lois Shearer were married on September 4, 1953 in Oklahoma City. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, member of the VFW Post #1198 of Coalgate, member of Salina, Kansas Elks Lodge, enjoyed dominoes, OU football, spending time with family, and enjoyed attending the Mule Creek picnic annually.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Vestal is survived by his wife, Lois, of the home, sons, Steve Cook and wife Roxann of Salina, Kansas, Robert ?Bobby? Cook and wife Cathy of Conroe, Texas, daughter, Laura Coomber and husband Steve of Dallas, Texas, grandchildren, Cameron Cook and wife Jessica of Denver, Colorado, Vestal Cook III and wife Nicole of Overland Park, Kansas, Robert Coomber, Caroline Coomber both of Dallas, Texas, great granddaughter, Madison Cook of Denver, Colorado, sisters, Ruth Verhyden and husband Mac of Pinehurst, North Carolina, Ann Drummond and husband Charles of Littleton, Colorado, brother, Finley Cook of Ft Collins, Colorado, Cousins, John Cook and wife Janet of Hardtner, Kansas, Mollie Cook of Elgin, Texas, June Gerber and husband Duane of Kiowa, Kansas, along with numerous nieces and nephews and many dear and loved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Faran F. Cook Sr. and Laura (Stevens) Cook, step-mother, Edith Cook, Aunt, Ruth McCroskey and cousin, Vestal ?Charlie? Cook and wife Gayle.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 11 a.m. at First Methodist Church in Coalgate.
Burial will be Thursday, May 10, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Brown's Funeral Service in Coalgate.
