Juanita Louise (Duncan) Cook

Juanita Louise (Duncan) Cook
August 31, 1934 ~ January 3, 2025

Longtime Shawnee resident Juanita Louise Cook passed away on January 3, 2025, at 8:58 p.m. in Shawnee, Oklahoma, at The Regency Skilled Nursing and Therapy. Juanita was born on August 31, 1934, in Southwest City, Missouri, to Everett and Geraldine Duncan. She graduated from Southwest City High School in 1952. She then graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, Oklahoma. Juanita was a member of the Cheer and Norse Star Drill Team at NEO.

Juanita met her husband, Dr. Harold D. Cook, while attending college at NEO. Juanita and Harold were married on August 4, 1954, and had two sons, Harold Ray born in 1956 and Gary Wayne born in 1957. Juanita worked at Mid-Continent Life Insurance in Oklahoma City and then Phillips Petroleum in Kansas City, Missouri, helping put Harold through Chiropractic College. They moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma, in 1966 and opened Cook’s Chiropractic Clinic at 647 North Kickapoo. Juanita also worked at the City of Shawnee Water Department for several years when they first moved to Shawnee while getting the newly opened Chiropractic Clinic established. Juanita made many lifelong friends while working for the City of Shawnee. Juanita was always very active throughout her life. Besides raising her two sons, she worked at the City of Shawnee, managed their Chiropractic Clinic, and also gave patient massages prior to chiropractic treatments. Juanita and Harold were always helping others and checking in on someone that needed assistance. They were both very generous with their time and money when it came to helping others. After retirement, Juanita and Harold divided their time between living in Shawnee and spending time as members of Terra Starr Park on Lake Eufaula. Juanita served on the Board of Directors at Terra Starr Park. Juanita enjoyed sewing, cooking, and traveling. Juanita was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee for over 40 years. Her sons could have never asked for a better mother.

Juanita is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dr. Harold Dean Cook, her son Gary Wayne, her sister Opal, and her brother Eldon.

Juanita is survived by her son, Harold Ray, and his wife, Territa, daughter-in-law Thuyhang, granddaughters Lanetta and Raeschel (Steve), grandson Barrett (Tom), great-granddaughter Brittany, and a brother, Danny, and his wife, Fumiko.

A very special Thank You to Heartland Home Health and Hospice and The Regency Skilled Nursing and Therapy for the compassionate and loving care they provided my Mom.
